Guruvarya Jagobadada Ganpati

Guruvarya Jagobadada Ganpati

This is one of the famous Ganpati in Pune city. The story behind this mandal states that the Ganpati was first worshiped in the "Talim". This Talim ( Talim is marathi word which means the place to practice the wrestling) was started by "Guruwarya Jagobadada". So the name to the Talim & Mandal was given by his name " Guruvarya Jagobadada Talim". The Mandal was also named "Guruwarya Jagobadada Mandal", which is also known as "Dasbhuja Ganpati". The meaning of word "Dashbhuja" is Das means Ten & Bhuja means Hands.
Previously the Ganpati used to worship in Talim only. But "Dagdusheth Halwai" student of "Guruwarya Jagobadad" made this Ganpati in form of mandal and built the temple. This temple is situated in heart of the city. The idol of this mandal was of ten hands made by artist named Wagh. But the two persons of mandal Prabhakar Waghulkar & Dinanath Kirve when they saw the idol of Dashbhuja in Sahkarnagar they said that our idol should be same like that idol. So in 1977 new idol was made. The idol was ask to make to father of artist Nagesh Shimpi who also were artist. The work of idol was last for 2 years at place named Bhairoba Nala.
