The another famous mandal in Pune city. The mandal is located in heart of the city. The mandal is in vegetable market which is known as "Mahatma Phule Mandai". So the mandal is namely famous as "Mandai Ganpati". The mandal is 125 years old.
The story behind this Ganpati is very rarely known to the people. It is said that the vegetable merchant name Nathuram Kachi didn't had any child. So he prayed in front of the devi Tuljabhavani in Tuljapur that if he is blessed with a child he will make a idol of Shardha-Gajanan Ganpati & will worship the same idol. In this way the idol was made & then after that mandal was formed.
The idol in it is different that other Ganpati idols. The Ganpati is sitting and besides it his wife Sharada is sitting. The other important think of this idol is that it was made eco-friendly. The idol is made of paper mache & organic adhesive. The Ganpati idol trunk is right side, which is very rare & wish come true god. It is said if any one who is deserving for a child may worship this idol. This is one idol of the mandal. In 1953 another idol was made by all the merchant and it was placed in the festival. It is said that every three years after the idol is placed on the swing (zopala).
Every year the mandal makes very different and eye watching decoration for ten days festival. Also the last day miraunuk rath is very huge and impressive to see. For such a great history the mandal is one of the famous mandal of all Punekars. Besides this 10 days the Ganpati is placed in the temple for rest of the year for the devotees to have darshan and blessings. The mandir is newly built and is very beautiful.
