Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati

The name in it tells it's presence and it's identity. The famous Ganpati in Pune after all the five Manache Ganpati. The full name of is "Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati". The Ganpati is very famous for it's blessings and also face of Pune. Anyone in who is the proper resident of Pune is aware of this Ganpati. The Ganpati is well known as the devotees pray for any wish in front of it and the wish comes true in form of blessings. So from various part of India as well as from world people come to take the blessings. The Ganpati was been place by well known sweetmart owner "Dagdusheth Shrivastav". He was a Lingayat trader and sweet maker. So due to it the name was given to him as Halwai (in marathi). From that the name was famous as "Dagdusheth Halwai". The shop of him still exist in heart of the Pune city. The Dagdusheth Halwai came from Ausa which is in Karnataka state of India. He settled in Pune and became a rich and famous businessman. 

In year 1800 the Dagdusheth Halwai and his wife Laxmibai Halwai lost their child in plague epidemic. They were in full depression and shock. So there guru Shri Madhavnath Maharaj advised them to make two idols of Datta and Ganpati. He told them to worship and take care of that two idols as if they were there child. He also told them in future this two idol will make his name in the world as any child does to there parents. So Dagdusheth Halwai and Laxmibai made the idol and worship them. The Datta idol is made of marble and the mandir was built near there sweetmart shop which is now famous as Datta Mandir in Budhwar Peth. The Ganpati idol is made of shadu mati and the mandir was built near Farazkhana police station in Budhwar Peth in presence of Shrimat Dagdusheth Halwai, Baburav Godse, Shrimant Bhausaheb Rangari, Shri Morappasheth Gave(namely Kaka Halwai), Narayan Bajewale, Narayan Bhubal and Paranjpe, etc. 

In late 1896 this idol was replaced by new idol and the first idol is still placed for worship in Shukrwar Peth near Akra Maruti Kopra.In 1896 Dagdusheth Halwai and his adopted nephew " Govindhsheth"  replaced the first idol with the new second idol and was kept for worship. From this year the mandal was made and the idol was made Sarvajanik for worship. After Dagdusheth Halwai his son and wife Laxmibai look after the things. They made trust to help the needy people. The main road in front of the Datta Mandir near Samadhan Chowk was name as Laxmi Road in memory of Laxmibai Halwai. Also the name to the chowk behind the Datta mandir was named as Govind Halwai in memory of Govindhsheth. The mandal was made and named "Suwarnyug Tarun Mandal". The mandal was further looked by the members in the mandal. The second idol condition became lightly bad. So the idea was generated to make new idol. In 1968 Mandal met the famous person Shilpkar Nagesh Shimpi and asked him to make a small size idol for sample.

After inspection of this small idol with the original, when they were satisfied with the idol that it is same as of original then they asked him to make the big idol. The idol was made in eclipse (in marathi Grahan). After the idol was made the Shimpi did worhip, pooja of Ganesh Yantra. After making various pooja he placed that Yantra in the stomach of the idol. That time the expense was 1125₹ to make this idol. After that on completion of 50 year to the mandal the new ie. third idol was placed for worhip. The second idol is kept in Kondhwa at Pitashri Ashram.

One of the most important instinct took place and gives the evidence to the story of his blessings. This story took place in the year 1982. When Amitabh Bachchan arrived home after the accident during the shooting of the film Coolie, Jaya Bachchan reached Ganpati's door. Now an old story has been shared by Photo Journalist Viral Bhayani and captioned 'It is said that when Amitabh Bachchan reached home safe after the accident during the shooting of 'Coolie', Jaya Bachchan went to the most popular temple of Maharashtra Dagduseth Halwai Ganapati Temple. Gold ear ornaments were offered by actress Jaya Bachchan thanking God. At the same time, Amitabh Bachchan himself considers his second birth after this accident

The Suvarnyug Tarun Mandal celebrate the Ganpati festival in very systematic,traditional,cultural way. They have different programms for the ten days of festival. The mandal built very huge replica of temples every year. The first and last day Ganpati miraunuk is also in systematic and discipline way. They make eye catching rath on both the days every year. The mandal is very much engaged in social help under Dagdushet Halwai Ganpati Trust. The are very much in social program. They help various people who are in need medical help. They also have participants in various program which are made for the help of the needy ones. The mandal is celebrating more than 125 years of festival. The mandal has the very much respect in the city. The main and very good think to say is every year lots of people are present in that 10 days to take blessings but no rush and no hassasment is seen by the members of the mandal. Each and every person is happy and satisfied after having the darshan of Ganpati. Besides this 10 days the Ganpati is placed in the temple for rest of the year for the devotees to have darshan and blessings. The mandir is newly built and is very beautiful. In mandir there is very systematic way to have devotees to take Bappas darshan. Due to all this things the Ganpati Bappa is very important, precious, honoured, proud feeling to each and every Punekar.
