Shrimat Bhausaheb Rangari is the famous Ganpati Mandal in Pune. This mandal has history over 125 years. This is the mandal which was the first in Hindustan. This mandal is well known for its history and it's very ideal presence.
Shrimat Bhausaheb Rangari Mandal Trust which is also known as Bhau Rangari Ganpati. This was started by freedom fighter named Bhausaheb Rangari. The real name is Bhausaheb Laxman Javale. So the name was given of him to the Mandal. The Mandal is situated in core heart of the Pune city in Bhudhwar Peth. The Ganpati is placed in the wada of Rangari. The Bhausaheb Rangari residence (wada) has various rooms & paths. In this wada Rangari use to treat people. As the Bhausaheb Laxman Javale were "Rajvaidya" (Ayurvedic Doctor). Actually the family business was to colour the clothes. So the name was given as "Rangari".The wada was also used to have meetings which were held to achieve freedom fight. Also the teaching were given to the people of the armery to used in freedom fight. The wada was also used to make people underground.
The Ganpati idol of Bhausaheb Rangari Mandal Trust is very unique. The idol is very beautiful. The idol is made of paper batter & wood straw. The idol is very different from the other idols. The idol is made in such a way to give message to fight against British. The idol is on chest of the stranger (Rakshas). The trunk of the Ganpati holds one hand of the stranger and the hands of the Ganpati idol holds sword to kill the stranger. The idol was made in such a way to give symbolic message to fight against British rule. The Virsarjan Miraunuk is done on the rath made up of wood and which is driven by Cows.
The Ganpati was first worshipped in year 1892. This was being worshiped in Rangari wada for 10 days. The moto of this festival to start was to make people aware about freedom fight against British. Also to make people assemble at one place to educate. Nanasaheb Khasgiwale, Ganpatrao Ghotawadekar with Bhausaheb Rangari worshiped 3 Ganpati idols for 10 days. On Anant Chadurdashi the Ganpati procession took place which is known as Virasjan Miraunuk.
The mandal worhips every day including the 10 days. The mandal doesn't made very huge decorations and uses cultural instruments in procession. The mandal celebrate the festival in simple manner.
Due to this huge history the Mandal is one of the famous Mandal in Pune city. All Punekars have huge respect towards this mandal.
